This is the story of Howrah Railway Station, the largest and busiest station in India. It serves the megapolis of Kolkata and two of the biggest zonal railways of the Indian Railway system. The first train of Eastern India chugged out of this station on 15th August, 1854. Since then, the station has served the railway customers without stopping. The construction of the present building designed by Hasley Ricardo, began in 1901 and took a decade to attain finaity. The book includes the copies of the rare romanesque design templates of the station building, not available anywhere else. Rare photos and drawings embellish the book, including those of the great personalities who passed through it, including Tagore and Gandhi.
