About Us

The Rail Enthusiasts’ Society was incorporated on the 28th of December 2015 (Registration No. S-E/792/Distt. South-EAST/2015). Its aims and objectives include, inter alia, to provide a platform for rail enthusiasts to disseminate knowledge, air their views and exchange ideas regarding the railways in India or overseas and to publish a magazine for all rail enthusiasts, whether they are members of the society or not. The magazine is being brought out every quarter. We have introduced a few diverse activities that would interest a rail enthusiast or which would inculcate rail enthusiasm in our youth. These include guided rail trips, debates, quiz competitions, visits to rail sites such as stations, museums, work areas, etc. We added other activities like monthly talks, an annual international conference, publishing of books, training, etc. to our activities. We will add other activities like the production and sale of rail memorabilia, photographic and other competitions, and so on, in due course.

We are quite sure that a magazine of this nature does not exist in India today although it is fairly common in the Western world.

A ‘Rail Enthusiast’ means a person who may or may not be a professional railway man or railway woman, but who has a deep interest in and love for the railways in all or any its aspects. The interest could be in any area pertaining to the railways in India or overseas and may include history, heritage, anecdotes, books and films, infrastructure like track, bridges, stations, etc., locomotives and rolling stock, architecture, operations, rail modelling, staff, sports, and so on. The subjects mentioned are only a sample and, in effect, sustained and deep interest in any area pertaining to the railways makes one a rail enthusiast.
