It is common knowledge that ICF was inaugurated on 2nd October, 1955. But, till this book was brought out, very little information was available in the public domain about the run-up leading to its establishment, right from the stage of the conception of this iconic rail coach factory, to its opening. This book aims to provide an insight into the happenings till ICF was born.
The author has delved into the personal archives residing with the Swiss museum of Transport, Lucerne, Switzerland, and the families of the early Swiss and Indian construction engineers of ICF from which are compiled the photos and documents which form a priceless heritage of this "temple of modern India."
The book begins with an interesting chapter tracing the history of the evolution of the railway coaches over time.
