This is a very interesting book of the evolution of the diesel locomotives on the American Railroads. It tells us the story of the Electromotive Divsion of General Motors fought a battle with ALCO for space in the diesel locomotive market in USA. ALCO finally lost out even though it made robust locomotives and closed in doors in 1969 even though they had a strong presence in the international market. It also tells the story of how General Electric which once partnered with ALCO for the electrical components of their locomotives silently made their own locomotives and now EMD only plays a second fiddle to the ever growing presence of GE locomotives. The book also tells the story of some smaller buiders like Fairbanks- Morse which stayed afloat for some years in the diesel loco market in USA and and made some pretty differently designed diesels.
