The volume covers a period of growth and expansion on the G.I.P. Railway when traffic was booming and the Victoria Terminus building was built. It also enumerates intersting details of difficulties faced owing to famine, epidemics of cholera and Bubonic Plague and the challenges of war on the Aghan front and elsewhere. The Indian Midland Railway was set up for dvelopment of the route from Bhopal to Kanpur and Gwalior via Jhansi. The details are gleaned from original correspondence between the Agent in India and management of the Company in London.
