With an enormous hinterland studded with mines, steel and power plants and ports along the eastern seaboard of India, the Bengal Nagpur Railway and its succcessor, the South Eastern Railway had over a century evolved into the greatest freight railway of the country, till it was trifurcated in the year 2003. Even thereafter it's growth remained unabated. The freight legacy of BNR enabled SER to evolve customer service and transportation growth into an obsession.
Mr. G. K. Mohanty, who was the Chief Operations Manager of South Eastern Railway, traces this legacy, weaving the story with the writings and reminisences of railway leaders who often made the impossible possible. The book is embellished with rare photographs, unseen previously in the public space.
